What is medical marijuana card?

A medical cannabis card or medical marijuana card is a state-issued identification card that allows a patient on a doctor's recommendation to obtain, possess, or grow cannabis for medical use even though marijuana does not contain the normal food. No one will be able to find out your status as a medical marijuana patient unless you tell them openly or if you are given a drug test to detect marijuana. Unlike traditional pharmacies, medical marijuana dispensaries must be notified by the patient that their doctor has put their prescription for marijuana in the system. Patients do not have to disclose that they possess medical marijuana and do not have to consent to a registry.

Please note that you will NOT receive a physical medical marijuana identification card for the State of Texas. Depending on your condition, your primary care doctor may recommend you try medical marijuana if you have chronic symptoms that affect your quality of life. Even with the opening of dispensaries and the Texas medical marijuana program gaining momentum, many patients are still unclear on how to get a Texas medical marijuana card.
